Spring Fever is in the air! Look around and you can see signs of it everywhere! I just love to see birds coupling up, and seeing their courting rituals! The pigeons that come into our garden are so sweet! They’ll hop along the fence, the male chasing the female, showing off to her, and eventually she’ll give in, stay still for him, and they’ll snuggle and cuddle, and groom one another, so sweet! And on Thursday night, we had two surprise visitors to our garden, two ducks! We live close to a beautiful park, a field with a little stream going through it, and another park with a man made lake in it, so these ducks could of came from any of these places, I think these two ducks are definitely a couple.

They arrived when Julia was in bed, just as we put her to bed actually, so unfortunately she did not get to see our little feathered visitors. John and I went out to feed them some bread, and it was so sweet as the male duck was letting the female have the majority, and you could see how alert he was, watching out for his companion. After they fed, they settled in the grass, had a snooze, then about an hour and a half later, they went. But, they returned the next night ( last night ), the same two ducks, at almost exactly the same time, just as we put Julia to bed! Again, they fed on bread, rested, snoozed, then about an hour and a half later, flew off! I wonder if they’ll return again tonight, I do hope so!

John baked another delicious cake! This was a vanilla and chocolate cake, which was just divine!

It was vanilla sponge on the bottom, then a layer of chocolate butter icing, then a chocolate sponge, topped with vanilla butter icing and chocolate shavings, yum!

I finished knitting Julia’s teddy bear cardigan, and I am so pleased with it! I really, really enjoyed knitting this :)

The teddy bear buttons I got a really good deal on from ebay, I won auction for 48 of these buttons ( 24 brown, 24 white ) for just over £1.00, bargain! The flower on the cardigan I crocheted,

Our beautiful girl! She would not keep her glasses on though, lol :)

My new Susan Crawford  knitting book arrived a few days a go, I love it!

I am definitely going to try my hand at knitting the Christmas jumper, hopefully for this Christmas

And I love this cardigan which I am going to knit for Julia..

I love this little knitting book!

More buttons, another ebay buy…

At the moment I am knitting Julia this cardigan…

It is done all in one piece to the armholes, then divided for shaping, at the moment I am knitting in the little Westie Doggies :)

Well, that’s it for today! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog, I hope you all have a lovely weekend, bye for now :) xxx

I am looking forward to this post, to showing you the lovely knitting books I received for my birthday! I have been unable to blog until now, as poor Julia has been quite unwell, but thankfully she is much better now, so I have been nursing a poorly toddler, and then other things kept me from blogging too, but today, everyone is well, we have a free day, so I am sat at the computer, with Julia in her high chair right by me, singing and drinking her water, and I can do my blog post :)

Firstly, let me show you the things I have made and am making, I finished the coat I was knitting for Julia, I decided not to do the matching beret as it is getting quite warm now, too warm for a woolly beret I think, so I just knitted the coat and I am so pleased with it!

The pattern is from an issue of Woman’s Weekly which was out about 5 weeks or so ago,

I crocheted a poncho for Julia, I found this a really fun pattern to do, and I love how it has turned out with the multi-coloured wool

And at the moment I am crocheting a cardigan for myself

and knitting a cardigan for Julia, and this is the first time I have done intarsia knitting, so am quite excited about this, I am knitting the back right now, which is all just plain knitting, but the fronts has teddy bears on them, so I am looking forward to trying my hand at knitting those

Last week my friend and I went to a jumble sale ( I love jumble sales! I got some great bargains, including a vintage Ladybird book to add to Julia’s collection, a bran new QI board game, and some lovely new photo albums! ), and when I got home, not only had my wonderful husband been looking after Julia, and seeing to our menagerie, he had also baked a 3 tier sponge cake, with vanilla butter icing between each layer, and vanilla butter icing covering the whole cake, and it was absolutely delicious!

The knitting books I received for my birthday I absolutely love! The first two I have to show you are The Beatrix Potter Knitting Book ( Julia and I are huge fans of Beatrix Potter ) and The Country Diary Book Of Knitting, which is inspired by the wonderful book, The Country Diary Of An Edwardian Lady

Here are some photos of the wonderful patterns in the Beatrix Potter knitting book, I just love the photo took inside Beatrix’s home, Hilltop Farm, it is the one with the magnificent fireplace in the background

There is a few adult patterns in this book, but I just love the children’s patterns the most!

And here are some photos of the gorgeous patterns from The Country Diary knitting book, I just love the Daffy-Down Dilly jumpers!

And these two books are actually part of a series of books, the Beatirx Potter ones include the knitting book, a needlepoint book, a soft toy book and a cookery book ( which I have…. )

And the Country Diary series of books include the knitting book, stenciling book, wild flower garden book, book of flowers, creating a butterfly garden book, and the country diary book of crafts ( which I have ) all of which are inspired by the beautiful Edwardian Lady Diary ( which I also have )

I can not begin to tell you how much I love all of the above books, i feel so happy and blessed to have them! Even if I never made anything from them ( which will never happen! I plan on making nearly everything from them, lol ) these books are wonderful to have just to look at the stunning photos within their pages, truly, these books are beautiful!

The other two knitting books I received for my birthday are the fantastic A Stitch In Time Books by Susan Crawford . I have been coveting these books for so long, even before I learned to knit properly, and now I have them, I am soooo happy! These are fabulous books, the patterns within them are all authentic vintage patterns, which have been revised for today’s woman, so the pattern itself is the same, only the wool used is wool easily obtainable today, and the sizing is for today’s woman, the books include the original pattern and the revised pattern, some are quite complicated and it will probably be years before I can do some of them, but some are quite simple, and easy for a beginner knitter like me to tackle

I absolutely love the 1940′s and 1950′s, so the Susan Crawford knitting books are a dream to me, I love them!

So there you have it, my four fantastic knitting books I received for my birthday :)

I have just recently got the last edition of the new Woman’s Weekly Vintage Series ( the newest issue is out now, all about vintage weddings, I have not got this one yet  ), this one is all about vintage makes from issues of Woman’s Weekly from days gone by

This is a really brilliant series to collect.

Well, I think that’s about it for now, this is a long post! Today, we’re having a quiet day at home, we’ll be tucking into our Sunday dinner soon, followed by home made walnut cake, and then we’ll all spend a relaxing Sunday afternoon together, bliss :)

Let me leave you with some photos of 3 of our 4 animals, ( Jack was asleep on the window sill in such a way that I could not get in to photograph him, lol ), I love these photos, Foxy and Scrappy look so sweetly tired, and Whiskey looks so grumpy, yet she is not a grumpy cat at all!

and Whiskey…

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my blog :)

Take care, bye for now xxx
